How to Play Paranoia

The Whisper Circle

Step 1 — Whisper: The asker draws a question and silently whispers it to the person on their left (the listener). No one else in the circle should hear it — that's where the paranoia starts.

Step 2 — Point: Without saying a word, the listener points at someone in the circle. That person is now on the spot — but they have no idea what they were just accused of.

Step 3 — Gamble or pay: The person pointed at chooses. Flip the coin: heads and the question is revealed to everyone for free, tails and it stays a secret between the asker and the listener. Sip to reveal: take one sip and the question is read out loud, no gamble.

Step 4 — Pass: The listener becomes the next asker and whispers a fresh question to the person on their left. The circle keeps turning.

Pro tip: The whole game lives or dies on the whisper. Lean in, cover your mouth, and keep it quiet — the moment the room finds out what everyone's being accused of, the paranoia dies. Start on Clean and switch to Spicy once trust (and drinks) are flowing.

Paranoia Drinking Game FAQ

How do you play the paranoia drinking game?

Players sit in a circle. The asker silently whispers a "who in this circle is most likely to…" question to the person on their left. That listener points at someone in the circle — usually whoever the question is really about. The person pointed at doesn't know the question, so they either take a sip to hear it out loud, or flip a coin: heads reveals it for free, tails keeps it a secret. Then the listener becomes the next asker and the circle moves on.

How many players do you need?

Paranoia needs at least three — an asker, a listener, and someone to point at. With only two the pointing is obvious and the paranoia evaporates. This online version supports 3 to 8 players, with 4 to 6 being the sweet spot. Everyone shares one screen and takes turns whispering.

What does the coin flip do?

The coin decides whether the whispered question gets revealed. Heads and the question is read out loud for the whole circle to hear. Tails and it stays between the asker and the listener — so the person pointed at never finds out what they were accused of. That's the paranoia: you know someone just called you out, but you don't know what for.

Do I need cards, a coin, or an app?

Nope. Everything runs in your browser — no download, no signup, no equipment. The question generator, the coin flip, and the sip counter are all built in. All you bring is your phone and your drinks. The whispering itself is the only physical part, and that's the whole point.

What's the difference between the three decks?

Clean is everyday embarrassments and bad habits — safe for mixed company and new friends. Spicy turns up the heat with crushes, secrets, and bold accusations for groups that can handle it. Couples leans into relationships — exes, jealousy, and who falls harder. Switch decks mid-game without losing your sip count.
