The game where your own brain is the opponent. Draw a category, then go around the circle naming something that fits — no repeats, no stalling, no mercy. Beat the timer or you drink. This page deals the categories and runs the clock, so nobody has to invent a topic on the spot or argue about whose turn it was.
Two to ten players. Pass one phone around — everyone names something before the clock runs out.
Tap draw to get your first category.
Name something in the category before the clock hits zero.
Why played online? Categories normally dies for one of two reasons: nobody can think of a category, or the argument about who already said "Guinness". This page solves both — the categories are written for you, the clock is objective, and the tally settles the score.
Categories is forgiving enough to bend. Agree on one of these before the first draw — changing the rules mid-game is how the arguments start.
Drop the clock to three seconds. Turns stop being trivia and become reflex — brilliant with a full table, brutal after a few drinks.
Split into two teams and alternate. A stall drinks for the whole team, so nobody wants to be the one who blanks.
Every answer has to be a single syllable. Sudden, silly, and much harder than it sounds when the timer is running.
Each answer has to rhyme with the one before it. Play it with a longer clock — otherwise it's over before it starts.
The reader invents a category about the people in the room ("excuses Dave has used"). Skip the deck for a round and let it get personal.
Answer twice in a row to skip your next stall — but blank on the second answer and you drink double plus one.
Please drink responsibly. Categories moves fast and the sips add up — pace yourself, drink water between rounds and swap in a soft drink whenever you like. See our guide.
