How to Play Would You Rather

The Rules

Step 1 — Draw: Tap the card to reveal a "Would you rather..." question with two options.

Step 2 — Choose: Pick Option A or Option B. There's no right answer — but you have to commit!

Step 3 — Defend: After choosing, explain why you picked that option. The other player can challenge your reasoning!

Step 4 — Pass: The card passes to the next player. Keep going until someone refuses to answer — then they drink!

Drinking Rules

Refuse to answer: Take 2 sips

Can't explain your choice: Take 1 sip

Change your mind mid-answer: Take 1 sip

Both players agree on the same answer: Both take 1 sip (you're too alike!)

Pro tip: Start with Classic to get comfortable, then escalate to Spicy when you're ready for the real debates.

Would You Rather FAQ

How many players can play?

Would You Rather works best with 2-8 players. In a larger group, take turns choosing and have everyone vote on who gave the most interesting answer.

What if both options are terrible?

That's the point! The fun is in choosing the "lesser evil" and defending why. If both options are truly equal, both players drink.

Can we add our own questions?

Absolutely! The best Would You Rather questions come from personal experience. After a few rounds, start making up your own — they'll be way more entertaining than any pre-made deck.

Is this game good for date night?

It's one of the best! The questions reveal personality, preferences, and sometimes hilarious deal-breakers. Start with Classic questions, then move to Deep when you want to really connect.

Scoring & Variations

Scoring & Penalties

Would You Rather does not crown a winner - it counts how often each player is forced to drink. Every refusal costs two sips, and every time you cannot justify your choice costs one. The app tallies each player's choices so you can see who dodged the most questions by the end of the night. In a bigger group, everyone votes on the answer and the most-voted-for player drinks instead.

Variations

Majority rules: The table votes on the "correct" answer. The player whose choice is in the minority drinks - and has to defend it.

Escalation: Add one sip to the penalty every ten questions, so late-night rounds cost far more than the warm-up.

No repeats: If your answer matches another player's, you both drink for being predictable.

Keep it going: When the deck runs out, move onto Never Have I Ever for the same choose-and-confess energy.
