Liar’s Dice
Drinking Game

Five dice under a cup, one bid at a time, and absolutely no reason to tell the truth. Bid how many dice you reckon show a face across the whole table, push the number up, and call liar when you think someone is bluffing. Whoever is wrong loses a die and drinks. Play it online against AI opponents — no dice to roll, no cups to hunt for, and nobody has to do the maths after four rounds.

Take a Seat

You against one to three AI bluffers. Five dice each, one cup, and a lot of lying.

How to Play
Liar’s Dice

The 30-Second Version

Everyone rolls dice under a cup and keeps them hidden. Players take turns bidding on how many dice showing a given face exist across everyone's dice — for example, "there are at least three 4s on this table". Each new bid has to be higher than the last, either more dice or a higher face. Instead of bidding, you can call liar on the previous bid. Then everyone lifts their cups and counts: if the bid was true, the caller drinks; if it was a bluff, the bidder drinks. Either way, the loser also loses a die. Run out of dice and you are out; the last player holding dice wins.

Step-by-Step

Step 1 — Roll in secret: Every player rolls five dice. You only ever see your own — the AI opponents see theirs. The dice stay hidden until somebody calls liar.

Step 2 — Bid higher: The opening bid is anything, like "two 3s". After that every bid must beat the last one: a bigger quantity, or the same quantity with a higher face. "Three 4s" beats "two 6s"; "three 5s" beats "three 4s".

Step 3 — Or call liar: If you think the last bid is a bluff, call liar instead of bidding. Cups come up and every die showing that face is counted.

Step 4 — Drink and lose a die: If the count meets the bid, the caller was wrong and drinks. If it falls short, the bidder was bluffing and drinks. The loser also drops one die and rolls fewer dice from then on.

Step 5 — Last dice standing: You are out when you lose your last die. Keep playing until one player still has dice — they win the table.

Our Rules (So Nobody Argues)

Five dice each at the start, standard six-sided dice.

No wilds. Many houses play 1s as wild, which makes the maths much harder to follow after a few drinks. Here a 4 only counts as a 4 — simple, readable, and the same for everyone. Add the wild rule out loud if your table insists.

One sip per lost die. Losing a round costs you one die and one sip. A player who loses four rounds has drunk four sips and is down to a single die.

Bid caps: You can never bid more dice than actually exist on the table, and you can never bid below the current bid. The app enforces both, so an illegal bid is impossible.

Why play it online? Real Liar's Dice needs five dice per player, a cup each, and a table with enough room to slam. Worse, at a pre-party nobody can keep the count straight — was that bid three 4s or three 5s, and how many dice are even left? Here the dice, the legal bids and the tally are handled for you, and you can play solo against the bots.

Also Known as Perudo & Dudo

Liar's Dice travels under a lot of names. In South America it is Dudo; the commercial board-game version is Perudo; pirate films and Red Dead Redemption turned it into the bluffing game everyone recognises. The rules are the same everywhere: hidden dice, rising bids, and one word — liar.

This version plays the straight five-dice format with no wilds, which is the cleanest way to learn it. Once you can read three opponents at once, the table version will feel slow.

House Rules & Variations

The app runs the dice and the counting. Everything else is up to your table — agree on a few of these before the first roll.

Rule 01

Aces Wild

Agree that 1s count as any face. It roughly doubles the expected count, so every bid needs to go up and bluffs get far more dangerous. Say it out loud before you start.

Rule 02

Spot On

Call liar and hit the count exactly? Call the table's bluff instead — the bidder drinks double. Rewards the players who actually count.

Rule 03

Water Rules

Play with water and keep your real drink on the side. Every rule works identically and everybody sets their own pace.

Rule 04

Palifico

Down to one die? Everyone plays one round where the face cannot be changed — you can only raise the quantity. The original Perudo rule, and a brutal comeback window.

Rule 05

Table Talk

Lying with your face is free; lying out loud costs you. Get caught making a false claim about your own dice and you drink one on the spot.

Rule 06

Loser Pours

Whoever loses a die tops up everyone else's drink before the next roll. Slow, annoying, and a surprisingly strong incentive not to bluff badly.

Liar’s Dice FAQ

How do you play Liar’s Dice?

Every player rolls five dice and keeps them hidden. Players take turns bidding on how many dice showing a chosen face exist across the whole table — each bid must be higher than the last. Instead of bidding you can call liar, at which point all dice are revealed and counted. If the bid was true the caller drinks; if it was a bluff the bidder drinks, and the loser also loses a die.

How many dice do you start with?

Five dice per player, which is the standard Liar's Dice and Perudo setup. Every lost round costs you a die, so the game naturally shortens as it goes and the last player holding dice wins.

Are 1s wild in this version?

No — this page plays without wilds so the counting stays readable. A 4 only counts as a 4, and 1s are just another face. Plenty of tables play aces wild instead; if you want that, agree it out loud before the first roll and bid accordingly.

Can you play Liar’s Dice alone?

Yes. This version is built for one human against one to three AI opponents, so you can play solo with no second person and no extra device. Pick your number of opponents, roll, and start bluffing.

Do you need dice or cups to play?

No. The browser rolls every die, hides the opponents' dice, enforces legal bids and counts the reveal for you. No dice to lose under the sofa, no cups to fetch, no app to install and no signup.
