Cup Pong
Drinking Game

Cup pong (what most people call beer pong) without the table, the twenty plastic cups, or the ping-pong ball that rolls under the sofa. Aim at your opponent's rack, hold to charge your throw, and release in the sweet spot — sink a cup and they drink it. Free to play online, works on your phone, and there is nothing to set up or clean up.

Who's Playing?

Two players, one rack each. Sink every cup on your opponent's side before they clear yours.

How to Play
Cup Pong Online

The 30-Second Version

Two players, one rack of cups each. Tap your opponent's rack to aim, then hold the Shoot button to charge your throw. Release while the power bar is in the glowing sweet spot and the ball flies exactly where you aimed. Too soft and it drops short, too hard and it sails over the rack. Every cup you sink is a sip for your opponent — clear all of theirs and you win.

Step-by-Step

Step 1 — Set up: Add both player names and pick six cups for a quick game or ten for the classic full rack. Each player defends their own rack.

Step 2 — Aim: Tap or drag anywhere on your opponent's rack. The reticle marks exactly where the ball will land, and the guide line shows the path.

Step 3 — Charge: Press and hold Shoot. The power bar fills and wraps around, so you can hold as long as you like and release on the next pass.

Step 4 — Release in the sweet spot: Let go inside the highlighted zone. Dead centre is a perfect throw; the edges of the zone are still good but can rim out. Outside the zone, the ball falls short or overshoots.

Step 5 — Drink and repeat: A sunk cup is pulled from the rack and your opponent drinks one sip. Then the turn passes and they shoot at your rack. First player to clear the other's rack wins.

Why play cup pong online? The real game needs a long table, twenty cups and a ball that inevitably ends up in someone's drink. Here the rack is already set, the physics are handled for you, and the sips are counted automatically — so nobody argues about what counts as a re-rack after four rounds.

House Rules & Variations

The app runs the rack, the power meter and the tally. Everything else is up to your table — agree on a few of these before the first throw.

Rule 01

Miss and Sip

Airball the rack completely and you drink your own penalty. Suddenly a safe shot is not so safe, and nobody wants to be the one who threw it into the wall.

Rule 02

Back Row Bonus

Call "back row" before you shoot and aim at the furthest cups. Sink it and your opponent drinks two. An honest call that goes in is worth the extra sip.

Rule 03

Heating Up

Three sinks in a row and you hand out a bonus sip of your choosing. Miss and the streak resets to nothing — glory is fragile.

Rule 04

Water Rules

Play with water in the cups and keep your real drink on the side. The game plays identically and everybody controls their own pace.

Rule 05

Shot Clock

Five seconds per throw, counted out loud by your opponent. Fluff the timer and the turn passes anyway. Keeps a two-cup game from taking an hour.

Rule 06

Redemption Handicap

Down to your last cup? You get two throws per turn until it drops. It rarely saves the game, but it makes the ending worth watching.

Cup Pong vs Beer Pong

They are the same game. "Cup pong" is simply the name that stuck for the version played with a rack of cups and a ball — the same one you will see called beer pong at a party or Beer Olympics. Some tables call it cup pong to keep it about the cups rather than the beer, which is handy when half the rack is water anyway.

Cup Pong FAQ

How do you play cup pong online?

Tap your opponent's rack to aim, then press and hold the Shoot button to charge your throw. Release while the power bar is inside the highlighted sweet spot and the ball lands exactly on your aim. Sink a cup and your opponent drinks one sip and that cup is removed; then the turn passes. Clear every cup on their side to win.

Do you need a table and cups to play cup pong?

No. This version runs the rack, the ball and the power meter in your browser, so all you need is a phone or laptop and something to drink. It is the same game without the table, the cleanup or the ping-pong ball disappearing under the sofa.

Can two players play cup pong online on one device?

Yes — cup pong is built as a two-player game you pass back and forth on a single screen. Take your turn, hand the device over, and your opponent shoots at your rack. No accounts, no room codes, no second phone needed.

How many cups do you use in cup pong?

Six cups per side for a quick game or ten for the classic full rack, arranged in the standard triangle. The real game uses ten per side, but six keeps an online match to a few minutes — pick whichever suits your table.

Is cup pong the same as beer pong?

Yes, they are the same game under two names. Cup pong is the common nickname for the version played with a rack of cups and a ball. For the complete rules — re-racks, bounce shots and redemption — see our Beer Pong guide.
