Pictionary
Word Generator

Draw it, guess it, race the clock. Deal a word, sketch it on screen with your finger, and let your team shout the answer before the timer runs out. No cards to lose, no board to buy, and no arguing over which words are allowed — every word is here and the score keeps itself.

Set Up the Teams

Two teams, one phone. Name the teams, pick your words, and the deck deals itself.

Pictionary

The 30-Second Version

Split into two teams. One player is the drawer: they get a secret word, then sketch it on the screen while their team shouts guesses. Every word the team guesses correctly is a point. When the clock runs out, the other team takes the pad — and the first team to 10 points wins. Drawing is free for all: shapes, arrows, and stick figures are all fair game.

You may not write letters or numbers, say the word, or mouth it silently. That is the entire rulebook.

Step-by-Step

Step 1 — Deal a word: The app deals a secret word and shows it on screen. Hold the phone to your chest while you read it — nobody else should see it. Tap "Different Word" if it is impossible.

Step 2 — Start the clock: Tap "Start the Clock" and the word disappears from the screen. From here on the board shows only your drawing, so a team-mate glancing at the phone learns nothing.

Step 3 — Draw on the screen: Sketch with your finger or a stylus. Four colours and a clear button are all you get. No letters, no numbers, no talking, no gestures.

Step 4 — They guess, you score: Tap Got It the moment your team says the right word and the app scores a point and deals the next word straight away — the clock keeps running, so keep going. Stuck? Hit Skip, but the word is burnt.

Step 5 — Swap the pad: When the timer hits zero the turn ends and the round summary shows what you scored. Hand the phone to the other team and go again. First to 10 points wins.

Our Rules (So Nobody Argues)

One point per word, no matter how long it took. Skips score nothing and cannot be replayed.

The drawer is the only one who sees the word. It never appears again until the round is over, so passing the phone around mid-turn is pointless.

No letters, no numbers, no talking. You may draw letters as shapes if they are part of the thing itself — the "E" on a shop sign, say — but you cannot spell the answer out.

No gestures or sound effects. Guessing comes entirely from what is on the board. Wildly miming a shark is cheating.

Close enough counts. If the word is "bicycle" and they say "bike", that is a point. The app trusts the drawer to be honest; there is no referee.

Why play it online? The physical game has one failure mode that ends the night early: you run out of words. Once the cards have been through the box twice, everyone knows the answers and the game dies. Players literally build their own word lists and trade "hardest word you can think of" ideas to keep it going. This generator deals endlessly from 150 words across three difficulty tiers, never repeats until the deck is spent, and brings the scoreboard, the timer and the drawing board with it.

Free Pictionary Word Generator

Every turn deals a fresh word at random, so you never need a card deck, a printable word list, or an app install. Choose a deck before you start:

Deck 01

Easy

Concrete, everyday things — animals, food, objects. Perfect for warming up, for younger players, or for the round after a long night.

Deck 02

Hard

Abstract ideas and awkward concepts — the kind of word that makes a good artist sweat. Reach for this when the games have got too easy.

Deck 03

Funny

Silly scenes that are far funnier to draw badly than to get right. This is the deck that produces the drawings everyone photographs.

Mixed draws from all three decks at random, which is the default and the best choice for a mixed group. Words are shuffled rather than picked repeatedly, so nothing comes up twice until the deck has been fully spent — then it reshuffles itself and you keep going.

House Rules & Variations

The app runs the words, the clock and the score. Everything below is agreed out loud before the first word.

Rule 01

All Play

Both drawers sketch the same word at once and every team guesses. Chaotic, loud, and the best way to include a big group that does not want to sit out a turn.

Rule 02

One Colour Each

Each drawer may use exactly one pen colour for the whole round, chosen by the opposing team. It prevents the "blue blob for water, green blob for grass" convention from carrying the round.

Rule 03

No Arrows

Pointers, arrows and dotted lines are banned. It sounds small and it transforms the difficulty — particularly on the Hard deck, where half the clues are "this, but over there".

Rule 04

Speed Bonus

A word guessed in the first ten seconds is worth two points instead of one. It rewards confident drawing and stops teams from sitting on a safe word until the clock dies.

Rule 05

Loser Draws

At the end of each round the losing team supplies the next drawer. Petty, free, and a surprisingly effective way to spread the embarrassment around.

Rule 06

Party Mode

Playing with drinks? The team that fails to score in a round takes a sip each, and a skipped word costs the drawer one. Keep the timer at 30 seconds and it stays a game rather than a punishment.

Pictionary FAQ

Do you need the board game to play Pictionary?

No. The board game is really just a word deck and a die — the actual game is one person drawing and everyone else guessing. This page supplies the words, the timer and the score, so all you need is a phone and something to draw on. That is also why it works for a group of any size.

How many words are in the generator?

150 words split into three decks of 50: Easy for concrete everyday objects, Hard for abstract ideas, and Funny for silly scenes. Mixed draws from all of them. Words are shuffled, so none repeats until the deck is spent — then it refills automatically.

How many people do you need to play?

Two is the minimum — one draws, one guesses — but it is far better with four or more so the guessing gets loud. Split into two teams, put the phone flat on the table, and take turns drawing on it. For a big group, use the All Play house rule so nobody sits out.

Can you draw letters or write the word?

You cannot spell the answer, write initials, or use numbers to stand in for words. You also cannot talk, mouth the word, or gesture at objects in the room. Letters are only fair when they are part of the thing you are drawing — a shop sign, a logo, or a letterbox.

Does the drawer see the word before everyone else?

Yes, and only the drawer. The word appears on screen before the clock starts so the drawer can read it, then it is hidden for the whole turn while the board shows nothing but the drawing. Nobody glancing at the phone mid-round can pick up the answer.
